The female fix

WHEN Cher Hetherington first arrived in Shepparton, she knew only one other person and that she wanted to start a business here. That was almost 27 years ago. Since then, Fix Movement Performance has continued to grow and now employs twenty-five staff, much of them female.

Cher said when starting her business, she had the good fortune to be supported and mentored by established local businesspeople who were always very encouraging. “They took me under their wing,” she said, “As a young female just starting in business world, I was very fortunate to have these inspirational people there to encourage me and treat me just as another businessperson.”

“After my first business, Shepparton Myotherapy was so successful, I was encouraged to grow and move into our current purpose-built studios. That is when I changed the name to Fix Movement performance.”

“I feel very passionate about encouraging and helping others grow in their careers, especially my staff, as an equal opportunity employer being nonsexist is important to me, but Fix has also been able to employ and encourage the growth of young women who are employed as myotherapists, exercise physiologists, remedial therapists, physiotherapists, as well as administration roles which have expanded in so many directions as the business has grown. So many opportunities for women to expand their careers which l am super proud of.”

“As a working mum who is running a business it can be challenging but I would not change it for the world and would encourage other mums to keep following their career dreams.”
