Paul Briggs honoured by AFL for Jack Titus Award

PLAYERS and officials have been awarded for their services to Australian Football, including Paul Briggs OAM, for tirelessly advocating for First Nations people in the game.

Paul has been at the forefront of Aboriginal peoples rights and he has been committed to improving outcomes in sport as the president of the Rumbalara Football and Netball Club (RFNC).

RFNC was founded in 1983 by Paul and others in the Yorta Yorta community. The club has played a significant role in creating sporting, recreational and social opportunities, but also in addressing the spiritual, emotional and physical wellbeing of its players.

Since entering Division Two of the GV Football League, RFNC have won 22 grand finals and pennants across various football and netball divisions. Further, several AFL players have been involved with the club, including Chris Egan, Jarrod Harbrow, Jy Simpkin, and more.

In 2015, Paul was appointed as the inaugural chair of the AFL’s national Indigenous Advisory Board, and in 2022 he is recognised for his endless drive to levelling the playing field for First Nations people.
