THE opportunity for youths to make a difference in an organisation that has the best interest of the people they service rarely comes around. Headspace in Shepparton is seeking engaged young people to join their Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) for 2024 to do just that.

The YAC is open to people aged 15-24 who want to make a difference in the community. It’s a role that offers the committee genuine influence over how Headspace is run because they understand that to be true representatives of local young people, they need to not only hear their voices but actively include them in the process.

The YAC hopes to provide young people with the opportunity to have input into the strategic direction of Headspace Shepparton’s services and mental health services nationally, by fostering leadership and helping them develop community projects while networking with peers and making new friendships.

“The YAC is very integral to the way we deliver our services here in Shepparton because we want to ensure that young people’s voices and opinions remain front and centre,” said community awareness coordinator, Naynika Bagrecha.

The role is open to every young person passionate about youth issues and mental health and who are keen to make a difference. Headspace highly encourages applications from young people with lived experience of mental illness and/or who have accessed Headspace services in the past, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders, people from multicultural and refugee backgrounds, people in the LGBTQIA+ community, young people with disabilities, and young men.
