BOOK lovers and budding writers were treated to a special event last Thursday night at the Shepparton Library when Dr Rachel Matthews presented her latest book, Never Look Desperate.

A Melbourne-based author, Rachel grew up in Shepparton and regularly comes back to visit family. A lecturer and teacher, Rachel’s debut novel, Vinyl Inside, received strong press reviews and was highly commended by the Australian Vogel Award judges.

Never Look Desperate is Dr Matthew’s third book. The story tackles the absurdity of despair in a recovering world, the liberation from isolation and the wild frontier of middle-aged Tinder – which has fast become a phenomenon for dating after 50.

The audience was treated to Rachel’s insights into the writing experience and knowledge, not only publishing three books and several short stories in magazines and newspapers but also her many years as a lecturer and creative writing teacher.

You can find Never Look Desperate at all good bookstores. For another chance to meet this amazing author, Dr Rachel Matthews will hold a writing workshop at the Shepparton Library on Thursday, November 30, at 7pm.
