HOMELESS WALK

Last Friday members of the community joined the Salvation Army on a walk around Victoria Pak Lake for Homeless Week. The event is designed to increase awareness of homelessness as a prominent issue nationally, but also locally with an estimated 400 people sleeping rough in Greater Shepparton. Major Scott Smallacombe from the Salvation Army Corps in Shepparton stated “The Salvation Army Shepparton remains committed to working alongside others to ensure that all people have the opportunity to thrive. The Shepparton floods of 2022 showed us all that when a community comes together with purpose, amazing things can be achieved. Working together — government, private and public housing sector, community organisations and community members — we can make a difference now and for generations to come.”

SIGN OF THE TIMES

The sign to Tocumwal and Melbourne on the corner of Wyndham and Knight Streets remains an eyesore after it was struck by a motorist serval weeks ago. While most residents are aware that you don’t drive down Knight Street towards Welsford Street to get to Tocumwal, or head north to go to Melbourne, it is a daily reminder maintenance isn’t rushed in Greater Shepparton.

Euroa Hospital is officially a campus of GV Health, offering acute care services to the local community as part of the Victorian public health system. This outcome secures local hospital services in Euroa for the long term, following the successful transfer of Euroa Hospital from former private operator Euroa Health Incorporated to GV Health.

SPORTING GRANTS

Local football and netball clubs are encouraged to work with their councils to secure funding through the latest round of the Country Football and Netball Program. Grants of up to $250,000 are available to support upgrades to regional sporting facilities. Mrs O’Keeffe highlighted the importance of the funding for the Shepparton District, where many clubs have been struggling to maintain and improve their facilities due to limited resources. “Local clubs are the heart of many of our communities and provide a space for people to stay active and build strong bonds,” Mrs O’Keeffe said.
