REGIONAL Victoria, including Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley, is set to benefit from a major road repair blitz announced by the Victorian Government. After a year of extreme rain and flooding, the area’s damaged roads will finally undergo significant repairs.

The majority of the maintenance work will be conducted in regional areas, which have suffered the most damage due to heavy rain and flooding over the past year. The repair blitz is scheduled to be carried out between now and June 2024, as winter conditions subside.

This initiative is just the first phase of a 10-year, $6.6 billion maintenance commitment by the government, with a focus on “future-proofing” local roads.

“We’ve already made record investments in repairing and maintaining our state’s roads,” said Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Melissa Horne. “Our new, long-term road maintenance plan will deliver even better targeted works and improved outcomes for Victorians,”

“We know we are facing a significant and complex repair program after some of the worst floods in our state’s history – that’s why our plan is backed by a long-term funding commitment and data driven plan to fix our roads.”

This latest effort follows a 12 month blitz that saw 370,000 potholes patched and 21,000 signs repaired or replaced.
