THE Liberal Member for Northern Victoria, Wendy Lovell has welcomed the opening of the NSW and Victorian border, opening up both states ahead of the upcoming Christmas period.

The announcement was made on Thursday, November 4, with current restrictions lifted at 11.59pm on Thursday night.

Ms Lovell said the new rules means those travelling to Victoria, including returning Victorians, only require a permit from Service Victoria to verify they are not COVID-19 positive or required to isolate as a primary close contact.

NSW and Victorian residents who reside within the border community bubble area do not require this permit, with the production of a driver’s licence sufficient to proof of their address. Despite this, Ms Lovell recommended those returning to Victoria by plane obtain the permit to avoid confusion by airport staff who may be unaware of the border bubble arrangements.

“After much heartache, the border between NSW and Victoria is open, allowing us to travel freely without the need to get tested or to quarantine.”

“This is wonderful news for everyone and will ensure that families and friends are reunited to celebrate Christmas and enjoy the summer together.”

There are no requirements for fully vaccinated Victorians entering NSW, unless they have been to a place of high concern within Victoria. However, a Victorian over the age of 16 years and not fully vaccinated cannot enter NSW for recreation or a holiday.
